DIRECTORATE OF ELECTRONIC
AND TECHNICAL INTELLIGENCE

Today, the technology is developing at a dazzling speed and in parallel with this the technical means are employed in all walks of life at the maximum level. Technology in a sense has made the world smaller and it has put the world in an electronic enclosure with the cables laid thousands metres under the seas and with the satellites placed on various orbits in the sky. The fact that electronics and technology are increasingly having a larger share in our lives has directed the intelligence organizations in all countries to utilize these opportunities and thus the products of the developing technology and electronics have started to be employed in the information gathering area.

The works in the field of electronic intelligence, which were started in Turkey in 1949 are currently conducted throughout the country by means of the modern and strong structure formed by the Directorate of Electronic and Technical Intelligence, one of the important units of the MIT. Among the duties of this Directorate are the issues such as conducting encrypted communication and deciphering the cryptographic systems as well as carrying out "elint" and "sigint" activities, which are the abbreviated forms of the "electronic intelligence" and "signal intelligence" respectively. Within the framework of the duty and responsibility as defined under the law, the Directorate is successfully conducting its mission which is aimed at primarily counteracting all electronic and technical attacks against our national integrity and responding to these when necessary.
