How does the MIT view the recommendations suggesting that it should undertake the missions abroad only, and leave the intelligence activities at home completely to the General Directorate of Security?

Both the internal and the external threats have to be approached as a whole in Turkey. In the light of the geo-strategic position of Turkey, regional problems, the threats created by the conflicting of regional and international interests, and the cohesive nature of political-economic-military security problems, the necessity to conduct complementary studies in the field of analysis is obvious. The same necessity also exists for the activities of collecting information. Setting the limits for the intelligence activities to be carried out by other security institutions, establishing coordination between all such institutions, and the necessity to centralize the strategic intelligence activities within the MIT, are all different concepts. The security intelligence is not limited to the activities carried out within the country, but also closely connected with the strategic intelligence, given the threat it creates also outside the country as a result of the support provided by some countries.

In addition, as it is stipulated under the law, the MIT has been charged with the production of security intelligence "at the state level" by making use of the information obtained from internal and external sources.
