Behçet TÜRKMEN (1899-1972)
Behçet TÜRKMEN, who was born in Mustafapasa in 1899, graduated from the War
College. As of September 1, 1931, being a Staff Captain, he first worked for
the National Security Services and then started to work for the Turkish Armed
Forces at different ranks. He worked as deputy Military Attaché to Athens and
as the Deputy Commander of the South-Eastern Ground Forces in NATO.
When M. Naci PERKEL was appointed to Baghdad with the rank of Major
General, Behçet TÜRKMEN was appointed as Director of the National
Security Service (MAH) on September 3, 1953 and remained at this
post with the rank of General Lieutenant until March 27, 1957. On
the same date Behçet TÜRKMEN was appointed as Ambassador to Baghdad.
Behçet TÜRKMEN, who spoke French, was later appointed as Ambassador to Stockholm
and died in 1972.
