THE UNDERSECRETARY OF THE MIT

Dr. Hakan FİDAN

 

Hakan Fidan (born 1968) graduated from the Turkish Military Academy in 1986 and the Land Forces Language School. He completed a large part of his academic training during his service in the Turkish Armed Forces. Fidan served overseas at the Intelligence and Operations Command of the NATO Rapid Reaction Corps in Germany. He received a bachelor’s degree in Politics and Administrative Science from the University of Maryland University College. Following his return to Turkey, Fidan earned his master’s and doctoral degrees from Bilkent University’s Department of International Relations.

Fidan resigned from the Turkish Armed Forces during his tenure as non-commissioned officer upon completing his mandatory service and proceeded to serve as Chairman of the Turkish Cooperation and Coordination Agency (TIKA), Deputy Undersecretary of the Prime Ministry for foreign policy and international security and Special Envoy of the Prime Minister.

Moreover, Fidan served as a member of the International Atomic Energy Agency’s executive board, the advisory board of the UN Development Cooperation Forum, Ahmet Yesevi University’s board of trustees, the executive board of the Yunus Emre Foundation and the general assembly of the Armed Forces Pension Fund (OYAK).

Having engaged in academic activities with a focus on international security, international development and Turkish foreign policy, Fidan taught international relations at Hacettepe University and Bilkent University.
